Brian J HensmanBrian J Hensman FCA (Senior Partner)

Brian trained with the firm after leaving school in 1966. After qualifying, he moved to Moore Stephens in London for three years to gain experience in a larger firm, returning as a Partner in 1976. Brian specialises in advising Medical Practitioners and the firm is a member of AISMA (Association of Independent Specialist Medical Advisors), he acts for in excess of 250 General Practitioners, including a large number of Medical Consultants. regular AISMA & ICAEW courses are attended to ensure being completely up to date with changes in the industry. Brian also acts for a large portfolio of non-corporate professionals, including a number of Solicitors' Practices. In addition, Brian runs our small business department which deals with all compliance issues for smaller businesses, including accounts, book-keeping, management accounting, VAT, Self Assessment Returns and construction industry compliance.

Claire RalphClaire M. Ralph ACA FCCA

After qualifying with a London firm in 1994 Claire moved to a larger Practice where she gained valuable experience in Practice Management and Marketing.

Claire joined The Carley Partnership in 2000 and became a Partner in 2002. Claire deals with a varied portfolio of clients in all fields. Dealing with audit, accounts and taxation she likes to offer a proactive business advisory service. Her particular area of interest is that of Corporate Finance. Claire advises clients on valuing their business, grooming it ready for sale and dealing with the sale process itself. She also advises clients in all aspects of purchasing a business from finance to due diligence. Claire is the firm's Managing Partner dealing with all practice administration and IT.

Tanja LawesTanja Lawes BA(Hons) FCA

Tanja joined the firm in 1998 after graduating from Oxford Brooks University. She specialises in OMB limited companies, in particular helping clients to navigate all aspects of the first few years of set up and advising on tax efficiencies for the company and director/shareholders. She is therefore in a good position to help businesses as they grow and has experience in dealing with group companies. Tanja is also part of our audit team and advises clients in regard to bookkeeping software, in particular Kashflow and Xero.


David StaceyDavid A Stacey FCCA

David joined the firm initially in 1991 working primarily in the accounts preparation and audit functions. He left in 1996 to work for Moores Rowland and then subsequently with BDO Stoy Hayward. Having qualified with BDO, he returned to The Carley Partnership as a manager in 2000 and became an Associate on 1st January 2009. David specialises in limited company accounts and audits, and has experience in corporate finance and company secretarial matters.

LucieLucie M Boaler BA FCA

Lucie joined the firm in 2002 after graduating from the University of Kent at Canterbury. She specialises in the Medical Specialist Department within the firm and deals with accounting, tax and superannuation issues, for General Practitioners, Locums, Partnerships and Private Consultants. She also advises clients in regards to book keeping software including Iris GP Accounts software and Sage as well as issues regarding VAT Partial Exemption.

Lucy BoneLucy Bone FCCA

Lucy started her accountancy career as a trainee at Rowland Hall Ltd. She then worked at several small and medium sized practices before joining The Carley Partnership in January 2018. She qualified with FCCA in 2000.

Lucy mainly deals with OMB Limited Companies, partnerships and sole traders.

JennyJenny Morton

Jenny joined the firm in 2000 after completing her A-levels. With a short period away at another practice she re-joined the firm in 2012. She mainly deals with OMB limited companies and sole traders. Jenny often assists clients with their bookkeeping queries and software, in particular Sage and Kashflow.

Emma GiffordEmma Gifford BSc ACA

Emma joined the firm in 2004 after graduating from the University of Canterbury Christchurch. She specialises in the Healthcare Department within the firm and deals with accounting, tax and superannuation issues for Limited Companies, General Practitioners, Locums, Partnerships and Private Consultants. She also deals with OMB Limited Companies and sole traders, as well as SRA Solicitors Accounts Rules audits for our Solicitor clients. Emma offers assistance to clients with their book keeping queries in particular Sage.

Katherine SmithKatherine Smith FCCA

Katherine joined the Carley Partnership in 2017 having trained and qualified ACCA in another local practice, followed by several years working in finance roles in various industries including media, travel and the education sector. Katherine works in Carley’s medical team dealing with accounting, tax and superannuation issues for General Practitioners, Locums, Partnerships and Private Consultants, and has experience in personal taxation, management accounting, payroll, bookkeeping and VAT including partial exemption.

Larah CarterLarah Carter ACA

Larah joined the Carley Partnership in 2010 upon leaving the Gravesend Grammar School where she completed her A Levels. She qualified as a chartered accountant in 2016 and has worked as a Medical Specialist since she joined the firm. Larah predominantly works for medical practitioners in practice and is experienced in preparing partnership accounts and partners’ expense claims along with dealing the related practice and personal taxation, VAT and pension issues, including preparing calculations on Annual Allowance Tax Charges and Lifetime Allowances and completing Annual Pension Certificates. In addition she has experience in dealing with accounting, tax and superannuation issues for Salaried GPs, Locums, Private Consultants and General Practitioners working through Limited Companies. She is also able to advise clients with regards to book keeping software in particular IRIS GP Accounts, Sage and Xero.

Conor ChalmersConor Chalmers BSc(Hons) ACA

Conor joined The Carley Partnership in 2015 after graduating from Canterbury Christ Church University and he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2019. Conor deals with limited company accounts but he also has experience in both statutory and SRA Solicitors Accounts Rules audits.

AmandaAmanda Davies

Amanda joined the firm in June 2010 after working with HM Revenue & Customs, Moores Rowland and BDO and then various local accountants. Amanda is a member of our Tax Department and specialises in personal taxation. Her particular experience is with double taxation for non and dual residents, non domiciles together with other areas of international personal taxation. In addition Amanda is adept at dealing with matters associated with HM Revenue & Customs such as The Let Property Campaign.

Jo BrigdenJo Brigden

Jo joined The Carley Partnership's tax team in November 2017 following 15 years working within Kingston Smith's specialist Tax division.

Jo has a wealth of knowledge in all areas of personal and partnership tax including International double taxation, residency and non-domicile tax accounting. Jo also possesses a deep knowledge of rental and self-assessment taxation.

Ben StaffBen Staff

Ben joined the firm in June 2019 after working with Proximity London, GPW + Co Ltd and then with a local wealth management business, where he began his transition into Trusts, Estates and Will planning. Ben is a member of our Tax Department dealing with Trusts, Estates, Inheritance and Will planning. His particular area of interest is ensuring estates pass to the next generation tax efficiently, preserving wealth for the future generations.
