Meet the team

PARTNERS

Brian J Hensman FCA (Senior Partner)

Brian trained with the firm after leaving school in 1966. After qualifying, he moved to Moore Stephens in London for three years to gain experience in a larger firm, returning as a Partner in 1976. Brian specialises in advising Medical Practitioners and the firm is a member of AISMA (Association of Independent Specialist Medical Advisors), he acts for in excess of 250 General Practitioners, including a large number of Medical Consultants. regular AISMA & ICAEW courses are attended to ensure being completely up to date with changes in the industry. Brian also acts for a large portfolio of non-corporate professionals, including a number of Solicitors’ Practices. In addition, Brian runs our small business department which deals with all compliance issues for smaller businesses, including accounts, book-keeping, management accounting, VAT, Self Assessment Returns and construction industry compliance. Brian is the firm’s Managing Partner dealing with all practice administration and IT.

Barry Owen Bsc (Hons) FCA

Barry trained with Coopers & Lybrand. After qualifying in 1979, Barry moved to The Carley Partnership 18 months later, where he became a Partner. Specialising in audits and business consultancy, Barry is the firm’s Audit Compliance Partner. He has a diverse client portfolio and in particular is involved in advising many businesses in the building and construction industry. Barry deals with the firm’s larger audit clients and also specialises in company reconstructions. In addition, Barry oversees our successful company formations service and company secretarial department. Barry’s particular area of interest is advising clients on profitability, tax planning and wealth management. Very hands on as an advisor he is seen as a key part of his clients success in business.

Claire M. Ralph FCCA

After qualifying with a London firm in 1994 Claire moved to a larger Practice where she gained valuable experience in Practice Management and Marketing.

Claire joined The Carley Partnership in 2000 and became a Partner in 2002. Claire deals with a varied portfolio of clients in all fields. Dealing with audit, accounts and taxation she likes to offer a proactive business advisory service. Her particular area of interest is that of Corporate Finance. Claire advises clients on valuing their business, grooming it ready for sale and dealing with the sale process itself. She also advises clients in all aspects of purchasing a business from finance to due diligence.

Samantha E. Haughton ACCA

Samantha joined the firm in 1989 after leaving school in Dublin. Samantha has had a major role in building and expanding the Medical Specialist Department within the firm. She has extensive experience in dealing with all accounting, tax and superannuation issues for General Practitioners, Locums, Partnerships and Private Consultants. Regular attendance at AISMA and ICAEW conferences ensures Samantha is completely up to date with changes within the industry. Her client base also includes large partnerships and LLPs

CONSULTANTS

Alan J Gooch FCA

Alan trained with Rowland Hall & Co in Grays, where he qualified in 1964. He then worked for Whinney Murray in their audit department before returning to Rowland Hall as a Partner. The Gravesend office of Rowland Hall was subsequently acquired by The Carley Partnership in 1994 and Alan became a Partner in the Practice. Alan retired as a partner from the firm on 31st December 2011, but we are delighted to have retained his services in a consultancy role. Alan specialises in all areas of taxation; in particular estate planning, IHT mitigation and general tax planning as well as Trust work.

ASSOCIATES

David A Stacey FCCA

David joined the firm initially in 1991 working primarily in the accounts preparation and audit functions. He left in 1996 to work for Moores Rowland and then subsequently with BDO Stoy Hayward. Having qualified with BDO, he returned to The Carley Partnership as a manager in 2000 and became an Associate on 1st January 2009. David specialises in limited company accounts and audits, and has experience in corporate finance and company secretarial matters.

Martin J Entwistle FCCA

Martin orignially worked for Rowland Hall and moved to The Carley Partnership in 1994. Martin specialises in all areas of taxation including the taxation of owner managed business and company reconstructions. Martin also has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the Construction Industry being an accredited Accountax Construction Industry Consultant. He also specialises in Tax Status and IR35 issues.
